I work in private practice as a Psychotherapist, Clinical Supervisor and Trainer. Currently I am a trainer at Cambridge Body Psychotherapy Centre, for Chiron Association of Body Psychotherapists in London (Post Qualifying training for cross-modailty therapists) and a teaching fellow at Edinburgh University (Department of Counselling, Psychotherapy & Social Sciences). I supervise individual practitioners and groups in Inverness and Forres and Edinburgh, and on Skype.
I am primarily a relational psychotherapist. I see how change happens through relating, with others and with ourselves. As well as observing this directly through long experience, ‘why’ it happens is supported by attachment theory & neuroscience. I have particular interests and skills developed from body psychotherapy, image & imagination work, movement training, Focusing and other expressive /creative arts.
I am trained in therapeutic work with PTSD and somatic stress, in the use of Arts in Therapy and in Gestalt approaches. I am qualified in Biodynamic Massage, and sometimes use this as part of a psychotherapeutic process. In the context of a psychotherapeutic realtionship and developing self-awareness, I support the body to release long held tensions resulting from trauma and life stresses.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist and Supervisor (including Training Supervisor, suitable for students) with the UK Council for Psychotherapy, and a fully accredited as a member the Chiron Association for Body Psychotherapists. I have a research-based MA in Body Psychotherapy, a Diploma in Supervision and a Post-graduate Diploma in Cambridge Body Psychotherapy. This professional training comprises six years experiential, clinical & academic learning, with a psycho-spiritual perspective. My overall approach is Humanistic, though I actively apply psychodynamic understanding.
I have been manager of therapeutic services for a Mental Health & Counselling Project for young people (aged 11- 26) across Cambridgeshire. I have led similar project development with both adults and young people. For many years I held a specialist outreach role (Active Outreach) with adults experiencing severe & enduring mental illness, based in both hospital and community settings.
I am actively engaged in continuing professional development: I am currently engaged in postgraduate research and I lead professional training.
I adhere to UKCP and CABP codes of ethics. As your psychotherapist I maintain absolute confidentiality, except in exceptional circumstances where there is a perceived risk to health or safety, for you or others.
